The greatly anticipated contest between Victor and Pittsford was resolved, at least at this point, tonight when Victor overcame a 4-2 halftime deficit and scored seven goals in the second half to beat the Panthers 9-6.

There were interesting games today and two of the more interesting were won by one goal. Thomas beat Fairport 12-11 and Penfield beat Penn Yan 9-8. Churchville-Chili defeated HFL 16-13 and Irondequoit defeated Brighton 10-7.

After a close game throughout, the Saints took control at the end of the game and defeated Hilton at the very end of the first overtime period. Pittsford remained undefeated with an 11-7 win over Cazenovia.

# 1457  2018 Season Wrap Up

Section Five lacrosse saw some changes in teams as Greece combined four schools into the Greece Storm and Livonia joined with Avon to form the Lakers. The Rochester city schools combined to form East United. With the changes and combinations, there were thirty-five teams and 942 players. Fairport carried the largest roster with forty players and Batavia had the smallest with sixteen.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2018 season. Senior offensiveman Reese Burek (Fairport), senior attackman Trevor Ford (Thomas), senior golaie goalie Chayse Ierlan (Victor), senior midfielder Alexander Mabbett (Victor), senior attackman Brady McDermott (Brighton) and senior midfielder Garrett Ruff (HF-L) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse has announced the 2018 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year`s contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 14th at Victor High School. The boys` game will start at 8:00 PM after the girls` play at 6:00 PM and the youth clinic which starts at 4:30.

# 1434  Victor Wins in Overtime

Alexander Mabbett scored off a feed from Joey Pezzimenti 1:59 into the second overtime period to give Victor the 10-9 win over Webster Thomas.  This is the fifth consecutive win for the Blue Devils.  Victor started off the game strong and took an early 5-2 in the second quarter.  They continued to put up points and increased their lead to 7-3 with 9:50 remaining in the third quarter.  After that Thomas put on the back-burners.  They scored four straight goals before Victor added their 8th.  The Titans continued to push all the way through the fourth and into the two overtime periods.  Both teams had shots at the cage in overtime and it was edge of your seat lacrosse for both periods.

# 1422  Thomas Heads Back to the Finals

Second seeded Webster Thomas came out and dominated in their 16-7 win over third seed McQuaid Jesuit.  The Titans scored six unanswered in the first quarter and increased their lead to 11-2 at the end of the first half.  In the second half, McQuaid Jesuit just couldn’t make up the difference.  Thomas last made the Finals when they won the Class B Tournament in 2016.

# 1396  Warriors Win Second Straight OT Game

Connor Ball scored an unassisted goal 1:13 into the first overtime period to give Webster Schroeder their second straight overtime line.  The Warriors defeated Webster Thomas 11-10 in the inter-district match.  The game was back and forth for its entirety; the score was never further apart than a two goal difference.

# 1384  Victor ends Thomas Undefeated Season

And then there were none, as the last undefeated team lost. In a greatly anticipated game this afternoon, the Blue Devils took a four goal lead and never lost it, even though the Tttans scored three goals in the last eight minutes to bring the game within one. Victor saw offense from eight different players with Camden Hay leading with 3g and Sam Lambert added 3a. Trevor Ford led the Titans with four goals, two of which were scored in the last minute of the game.

The season is underway, and the break is over. Eighty-eight games have been played thus far. Three teams are still undefeated with Webster Thomas (5-0) and Gananda (5-0) in the lead and Victor in at 4-0, Twenty-six (of seventy-three out of Section games scheduled) have been played. Section five teams have won sixteen (62%).

THURSDAY: DAY IN REVIEW: Three of the fourteen games played today were one-goal games. Pittsford fended off a last minute barrage from Fairport, Brighton saw a goal from Lukas Stanat (5g) to break their tie with Hilton and Cullen Coons scored his third goal of the game in the first overtime period to give Livonia-Avon the 17-16 win over Marcus Whitman.

In a game that was dictated by halves, Thomas played a dominating first half to defeat Irondequoit 10-7.  The Titans led 8-1 late in the second quarter and although the Eagles attempted to fight back, the deficit was too large.  They never got the score closer than two goals.  The Titans remain undefeated at 4-0 with their closest matchup of the season.

# 1285  All Greater Rochester 2017

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2017 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today. The list features the top sixteen players and a number of honorable mentions were led by Canandaigua senior Attackman, Devin Andrews who was named "Player of the Year". Andrews, who was also a US Lacrosse All-American, scored 72 goals and 47 assists this year. The SportsFive Offensive Player of the Year plans to study and play at Stony Brook next year.

Webster Thomas took their first lead with an overtime goal from Colin Horan in the second overtime period to defeat Penn Yan 9-8.  The Mustangs led for major portions of the game and had a three goal lead with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.  Thomas scored the final four goals of the match-up to force overtime and take the win.

Thomas scored seven of the last eight goals to defeat Fairport 15-10.  The Titans increase their record to 5-1 with the win.  Over the first three quarters the score was never more than 2 goals apart with the game tied seven times.  However, Thomas scored four unanswered goals to start the final quarter and take the largest lead of the game 13-9.  The Red Raiders could not come back and only added a single goal in the fourth.

Austin Blumbergs scored an unassisted goal just 0:21 into the second overtime period to give Penn Yan a 7-6 win over Haverling. Blumbergs scored a total of 3g-1a to be a part of four out of seven goals.  The Rams led for the majority of the game, with Penn Yan only leading for 1:39 throughout the entire contest.

Thirty-one states will be represented as just over 1,700 middle and high school boys and girls have been named Brine National All-Americans and will compete in games at the 2015 Brine National Lacrosse Classic from June 29-July 2 at the River City Sportsplex in Richmond, Virginia.

Thomas never led for a single second in their 9-8 overtime win over Canandaigua. Scoring when it was most important, they took their only lead with a sudden victory goal from Travis Ford with 2:11 left in the first overtime period. The Titans scored six of the last seven goals. Trevor and Travis Ford were major players in the contest with Travis scoring 2g (including the game winner) and Trevor scoring 5g.

Thomas led for the majority of the game in their 12-10 win over Irondequoit. The Titans only trailed twice and only by a single goal both times. Although they led for most of the game, Irondequoit never trailed by more than three and was often within a single goal.

The Warriors started the game off strong before the Titans scored six unanswered to end the first and start the second quarters. *+After a delayed start due to weather, Webster Thomas fought back from a five goal deficit (8-3) to force overtime and then defeated Irondequoit 11-10. The Titans never led and only tied the game twice (9-9 and 10-10). They took their first lead in sudden victory overtime to secure their win and move into the Finals. Irondequoit controlled the game for nearly three full quarters before Thomas fought back at the end of the third.

The All Tournament Teams for 2016 were announced at each final. MVPs for A, B and C were Ryan Maloney (Victor), Nick Mabe (Thomas) and Ben Emerson (Penn Yan). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments.

Webster Thomas rising junior attackman Trevor Ford has announced his decision to commit to the University of Massachusetts. After his first year on the Titan Varsity as a freshman, Trevor added 90 points to his resume last year as a sophomore. For his efforts he was named to the second team All League (Monroe County D-2) in attack.

Top seeded Penn Yan scored nearly all their goals in a set of two runs to defeat third seeded Aquinas 9-7. The Little Irish played the first half extremely well and led 3-0 and 4-1 before the Mustangs began to get their feet under them.
